Autopsy Scheduled to Determine Exact Cause of Death

As an autopsy is set to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death of singer Wheesung (43, real name Choi Whee-sung), his family has announced that they will not be holding a funeral service and will proceed directly with cremation after the autopsy.

Police requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service after discovering a syringe at the scene of Wheesung’s death. The autopsy is scheduled for the morning of March 12 and will focus on determining the cause of death, including the possibility of drug use.


Agency’s Official Statement

On March 11, Tajo Entertainment, Wheesung’s agency, released an official statement:

“Due to the sudden tragic news, the bereaved family is in deep shock and grief, making it difficult to proceed with the funeral at this time. Once they have had time to recover, the funeral process will take place according to the family’s wishes. The ceremony will be held privately with only close family and friends.”


Details of Wheesung’s Death

Wheesung was found dead at his residence in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, on March 10. His mother, who had received a call from his agency reporting that they could not reach him, went to his home, where she found him unconscious and immediately called 119 (South Korea’s emergency services).

The singer had been scheduled to perform in Daegu on March 15. Just days before his death, on March 6, he posted on his social media, writing:

“Diet is over. See you on March 15.”
